Cape Town, September 9th, 2024—Digital Frontiers today announced that Gavin Krugel will be stepping down as CEO in the new year. The Board of Directors has initiated a search for a new CEO and is committed to ensuring a smooth transition.
Co-founder Gavin Krugel has decided to step down from his role as CEO after ten years of dedicated service. We are grateful for Gavin Krugel’s decade of leadership and his unwavering commitment to Digital Frontiers. With co-founders David Porteous and Ignacio Mas, Gavin transformed Digital Frontiers from a mere concept into a globally impactful partner in the development sector, serving clients across 180 countries.
Under Gavin’s leadership, the company implemented an innovative hybrid business model that successfully integrated commercial and grant income, building substantial sustainability reserves. He spearheaded the diversification of our products and services, managed a strategic merger, and navigated the company through two significant reinvention phases, all while ensuring exceptional delivery to our funders and partners.
“Leading Digital Frontiers has been an honour, an adventure, and one of the most rewarding challenges of my life. Working with such a talented team and a dedicated Board has been inspiring. I am confident that the company is well-positioned for continued success and growth.” – Gavin Krugel, Co-Founder and CEO
Gavin’s steadfast dedication to the people and culture at Digital Frontiers has been instrumental in our success. We are thankful for his continued collaboration and look forward to building on the strong foundation he has established. The Board of Directors expressed deep gratitude to Gavin for his outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to the company’s success.
“We are grateful for Gavin’s leadership and contributions. The Board is committed to finding a new CEO to build on this strong foundation. The digital transition of entire industries aligned to the SDGs continues to be an opportunity and challenge for many. Digital Frontiers and its leadership team are excited to continue on this journey.” – Alka Gupta, Board Chair
The Board has engaged a leading executive search firm to assist in identifying and recruiting a highly qualified candidate to lead Digital Frontiers into its next growth phase. The search process is expected to take four months, and the Board is committed to finding a leader who aligns with the company’s vision and values. Gavin will stay with Digital Frontiers during the transition, supporting the new CEO in a donor relations and business development role. A transition plan is in place, and we expect a smooth transition in the new year.
