Digital Frontiers Joins the Mojaloop Foundation to Advance Financial Inclusion

Cape Town, Western Cape – [30 January 2023] – Digital Frontiers (DF) today announced that it has joined the Mojaloop Foundation, a charitable nonprofit dedicated to advancing financial inclusion, at the Promoter level. As a member, Digital Frontiers will collaborate with Mojaloop Foundation’s leading global philanthropic and technology member organizations to grow and support Mojaloop open source software and its development community.

Established in 2015, Digital Frontiers is a not-for-profit organization that delivers exceptional learning experiences and opportunities for continuous professional development in both emerging and bridge professions which are focused on helping achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Digital Frontiers delivers comprehensive capacity-building programmes, exceptional learning experiences, continuous professional development, and opportunities to connect with peers.

“Instant payments are rolled out in many parts of the world. They provide consumers and merchants with an efficient and lower-cost choice in paying for goods and services acting as a gateway for financial inclusion. Working together with Mojaloop Foundation we can create more opportunities to support inclusive payments professionals as they grow their capacities and strengthen their networks,” said Digital Frontiers Institute Divisional Director Xavier Martin.

As part of the Mojaloop community, DF will work to enable banks, mobile network operators (MMOs), microfinance institutions (MFIs), and payment service providers to leverage Mojaloop to develop inclusive, accessible and affordable payment systems and services.

“We are very pleased to welcome Digital Frontiers. We look forward to working with them to advance Mojaloop as a digital good in support of financial inclusion,” said Mojaloop Foundation Executive Director Paula Hunter. “Our collaborative work will enable emerging economies to provide important financial tools to more of their population.”

Mojaloop open source software focuses on enabling low-value instant push payments between account-holding licensed institutions without replacing the existing card and pull-payment infrastructure (ACH, Card, POS, ATM). Combined with an opensource operating model, Mojaloop acts as an accelerator for real-time payments interoperability infrastructure, enabling schemes to collaborate with a common standard that drives the removal of payments fragmentation at scale.
